Community Spirit: Halloween Makeathon at TUD
Overview of the Event
TUD Tallaght students and lecturers are collaborating to create Halloween costumes for children at the LauraLynn Children's Foundation. This initiative, known as the "Halloween Makeathon," is designed to personalize costumes for young residents who face serious health challenges.
Personalized Costumes for Children
Children at LauraLynn expressed their costume wishes, emphasizing the importance of individual preferences. The Makeathon has been running for four years, initiated by TUD engineering lecturer Robbie O’Connor, and aims to bring joy to children who are mainly wheelchair users or have terminal illnesses.
Involvement and Preparation
Preparations for the Makeathon included taking precise measurements of children’s wheelchairs using 3D technology. This innovative approach ensures that costumes fit comfortably and can be easily worn.
Collaboration Across Departments
The project has expanded beyond engineering, with students from Marketing and Media Departments contributing their skills to enhance various aspects of the event. It fosters teamwork and creativity among students while supporting a charitable cause.
Community Engagement
Families and residents of the LauraLynn Foundation actively participate in the event, enjoying the creative process of costume-making. The Halloween spirit is prevalent as the event approaches October 31st, enriching community connections.
Support and Funding
The Makeathon is partially funded by N-Tutorr and supported by Google and Project Management Group, demonstrating strong community and corporate backing for this noble cause.
